Small stockbrokers

The London Stock Exchange is considering offering financial help to small stockbrokers to help them cope with the consequences of the proposed merger with Deutsche Borse, it announced in 2000.

Stockbrokers face a bill of up to £40 million for replacing the existing SETS software with the German Xetra system if the merger proceeds.

Small stockbrokers have generally been criticial of the merger. They hold one third of the votes.
